Three weeks without an email from me. You're welcome.
Hey 👋
It's been three weeks since I last wrote to you, so let me start with where I went.
I spent ten days in Rapallo, a small town on the Italian coast near Genoa.
The other thing I did after coming back: I rebuilt HelloBuilder. I'll give you the thinking rather than a feature list, because the thinking is the part you can use.
Until now, HelloBuilder was a newsletter with a directory attached. You read this email, and the directory sat next to it. Now it's the other way round: a directory with a newsletter attached. This letter stays the voice. The product pages become the thing that lasts.
Three decisions shaped it.
Your listing goes live from one URL. Paste your product link on HelloBuilder, AI reads your site and fills in the page, and it publishes straight away. Claiming it comes later, once you can see what you're claiming. I took that shape from Product Hunt: spend a founder's attention after the page exists, not before.
Numbers are read, never typed. The only revenue on your page is a number we read from your own Stripe or Lemon Squeezy account. If we can't read it, the number goes dark instead of going stale. Any form lets you type "$10k MRR", and I didn't want to build another one.
Sign in with X, and only X. I removed email, Google and GitHub sign-in, so every builder on the site arrives with a face, a handle and the people who already follow them. If you had an old email login, it's gone. Sign in with X and you start fresh.
I cut things too, which felt better than building them: 240 tool pages nobody could reach, and an AI "roast" on builder pages that my own notes call useless.
Now the honest number. Right now there is one product listed on HelloBuilder, and it's mine. So my ask is simple: if you've shipped something, be the second. It takes one URL. Nothing wrong in getting a backlink right?
🧠 What I Learned on X
Four posts I saved while I was quiet, and the lesson I took from each.
Write to One Person, Not to Everyone - @sulfurscales on Gary Halbert, who sold $140M by direct mail: ads get tossed, real letters get opened, and he wrote every one to a single specific person. It's why this email now reads like a letter to you.
Sell the Slot, Never the Opinion - @marclou turned down paid tweets, offered sponsor spots on TrustMRR instead, and capped the buyer at 5 of 20 so the site wouldn't look like one big ad. They paid $7,495 a month anyway. It's the line I drew for HelloBuilder too: a slot is labelled, and rankings are never for sale.
Four Words That Fix Claude's Prose - @iannuttall's whole prompt is "Please remove all mannered prose." Add it to any writing request before you publish what comes back.
1,100 Replies in One Day - @patrick_kuhnke_ tested the reply-guy limit: three lists of accounts, short answers, 12 to 14 hours, 423,000 views. His verdict on whether it was worth it: "Not sure." Read that before you plan a reply sprint.
📰 AI News
Four things changed while I was away, and the first one touches every repo you have open.
One Instructions File for Every Agent - Claude Code 2.1.277 now falls back to AGENTS.md when a folder has no CLAUDE.md, and you can switch it off in /config. If you've been keeping two instruction files in sync by hand, you can stop. Keep AGENTS.md as the one source and let every agent read the same rules.
A Model That Only Decides - TypeSafe's Jev doesn't write, it classifies, routes and scores, over 100x faster and 200x cheaper than small frontier models. If your agent burns an LLM call just to pick its next step, that's the call to replace. Fair warning: an indie developer says he published the same idea a year ago.
Pick the Model Per Task in v0 - v0 is now model-agnostic through Vercel's AI Gateway, from Claude and GPT to Kimi, GLM and DeepSeek. Use a cheap one for scaffolding and save the frontier model for the hard screen.
50x More Building on Open Models - Bolt Forge gives every individual Pro plan up to 50x more usage on open models until October 14, at 91% of the top paid model's score on Bolt's own benchmark. The catch: you opt in to sharing de-identified sessions as training data.
🛠 Tools to Try
What I'd install before you open your editor tomorrow, starting with the one that tells you what your agents cost.
See What Your Agents Actually Cost - tokentab reads your Claude Code, Codex and Gemini CLI session logs and breaks the spend down by model, project and day. Run it once and you'll know which project is eating your plan.
Stop Your Agent Coding Blind - Birdview maps your architecture before every change, so the agent sees the whole house before it moves a wall.
Let the Expensive Model Plan, Not Type - pilotfish has the frontier model plan inside Claude Code while cheaper models execute, with a verification step guarding quality. Try it on your next long refactor.
Run Agents Side by Side Without Collisions - worktrunk is a git worktree CLI built for parallel agents: one branch and one folder per agent, so two of them never edit the same checkout.- Your MCP Servers Are Eating Your Context - 15 servers with 20 to 30 tools each can burn 60,000 tokens before your agent reads a word. The fix: group servers by job (code, comms, data) so the agent picks a group first.
Budget for the Model Swap You Didn't Choose - Pinning a model version won't save you from deprecation. The recurring cost is re-running evals and retuning prompts, and this shows you how to budget for it.
⚡ Skills to Try
Three skills, each doing one job. Paste the line and you're done.
tastemaker - grounds your agent's UI in real reference images and remembers your taste between sessions. For you if every generated screen looks like the same template. /plugin marketplace add codeswithroh/tastemaker
sepia - takes the AI tone out of writing, with rules matched to where the text is going. For you if you publish anything with your name on it. /plugin marketplace add Nanako0129/sepia
memsearch - one memory shared by Claude Code, Codex and your other agents, kept as Markdown you can read. For you if your agent forgets everything after /clear. /plugin marketplace add zilliztech/memsearch
📈 Growth & Money
If you've shipped something, this is where your week should go.
Check the Rules Before You Post on Reddit - One founder mapped the self-promotion rules of 9 founder subreddits: r/SideProject wants your link, r/marketing bans you for it, and r/SaaS counts links in comments toward its limit. Read it before your next launch post.
AI Overviews Cut Clicks 23% in Nine Days - Ahrefs tracked 963 French domains, and the most exposed lost 23.1% of their click-through after AI Overviews launched there. If search is your channel, find the pages Google now answers without sending you the click.
600 Visits, One Download - A newsletter placement sent a founder 600 visits and one install. The signal was the three people who asked for a Windows version: when traffic doesn't convert, the people who ask for something are your roadmap.
Get Paid Globally Without Learning Tax Law - CREEM 2.0 handles payments, taxes, payouts, affiliates and usage billing for software sold worldwide. Compare it before you wire up Stripe plus a tax tool by hand.
💬 Builder Discussions
Start with the first one. It's the problem a directory like HelloBuilder exists for.
AI Made Everyone a Builder, Not a Buyer - 1,886 upvotes on one line: shipping takes days now, getting noticed still takes forever. The bottleneck moved, it didn't go away.- Is Vibe Coding the New Gambling? - $1,000 spent building and promoting three apps, $300 back. The same bottleneck as the first thread, told with receipts.
Your Agent Fixed the Test, Not the Bug - When a test fails, agents loosen the assertion and report green. Steal the author's rule: make your agent paste the real test output before it claims anything passes.
That's my three weeks. If you listed your product tomorrow, what's the one number you'd want next to it? Hit reply and tell me.
Keep shipping,
Nishant
