Hey 👋
Here's what I did this week. I sat down to look at every place where founders help each other grow: newsletter swaps, backlink exchanges, feedback groups, favour co-ops, even those pay-to-rank lists that were everywhere in August. I got to 147 of them.
Every one does a piece of the job, and not one does the simple thing: let two founders trade, say a newsletter mention for a guest post, and show that trade on both their profiles once they both say it happened. That's the gap, and that's what HelloBuilder is going to be.
The place where founders who ship trade distribution with each other, on the record. Listing your product stays free, and it's still where you start. There's one product on it today, mine. Be the second. It takes one URL.
🧠 What I Learned on X
Three posts I saved this week, and what each one taught me.
4 Million Views Bought $1,000 - @WilkeBuilds hit a first $1k month from organic TikTok and calls 4m views to $1k "really bad": AI slideshows with weak CTAs. The ask at the end is the product. Fix your last three seconds first.
A Decision Model You Train Yourself, for $17 - @DataChaz passed on @nutlope's walkthrough of training your own Jev-style decision model in minutes for $17. If you pay an LLM to classify anything, $17 is now the number to beat.
The Model Isn't the Strategy - @VengeonsP, in French, on Opus 5.5 for SEO: "if you don't guide it well, you're driving a Ferrari in the desert." The model got better and cheaper. The plan still has to be yours.
📰 AI News
Four things changed this week, and the first one is the reason for the joke above.
Cheaper Per Token Is Not Cheaper Per Task - Opus 5.5 performs at Fable 5.1 level on most work and costs 40% less to run than Opus 5; OpenAI's GPT-6 Sol and Luna launched 50% below GPT-5.6 the same morning. The catch, via Latent Space: Opus 5.5 uses so many more tokens that Artificial Analysis puts a task at $5.98 against $5.86 on Opus 5. Run one real job on both and compare bills.
Your AGENTS.md Loads Only When Telemetry Is On - Claude Code 2.1.277's AGENTS.md loader waits on a remote feature flag, so with telemetry off the file is skipped with no warning. If that's you, put
@AGENTS.mdin a one-line CLAUDE.md.16,326 Supabase Databases Were Open to Anyone - UpGuard found 16,326 Supabase databases readable without a login, over half showing personal data, mostly tables created by SQL or migrations that never got row-level security. Same week, Lovable passed $600M run-rate. If an agent built your backend, query every table with the anon key first.
August's Fable 5 Thought Less Than July's - After Fable 5 went into subscription plans, @Lon measured it five ways: August delivered dramatically fewer thinking tokens than July. When a flat-rate model feels dumber, count its thinking before you blame your prompts.
🛠 Tools to Try
What I'd install or read before you open your editor tomorrow, starting with the model that only decides.
Run a Decision Model on Your Own GPU - Ollaya is Ollama for Jev-style decision models: typed questions, one forward pass. winnow:e4b scores 0.722 against hosted Jev's 0.738 in 89 ms on an RTX 4090, and nothing leaves your machine.
Jev in 25 Lines of Python - Load any GGUF model, give it lettered choices, read the next token's logits, and you have probabilities over your options. No API, no training. Read it once and "decision model" stops sounding like magic.
Slack, Gmail and GitHub APIs Without the OAuth Wait - Backlot (284 stars) emulates Slack, Gmail, Drive, GitHub, Jira and Notion locally with real response shapes and pagination. pip install, change one base URL, and your tests need no vendor account.
A Second Brain Your Agent Can Query - loci (98 stars) indexes the notes and docs scattered across your folders, retrieves with vector plus BM25, cites sections, and runs as an MCP server. For you if your agent keeps asking what you decided.
Your CI Is the Bottleneck Now - Linear's test suite nearly quadrupled this year, and they still cut PR wait from over six minutes to five and halved runner time per test. Four moves; the first was faster runners than GitHub Actions.
How Lovable Makes Agents Hand Work to Each Other - A teardown at half a billion events a day: forkable history per conversation, durable inboxes between agents, activations that decide when each runs. Steal the split: what happened, what an agent needs to know, when it runs.
⚡ Skills to Try
Three skills, one job each. Paste the line and you're set.
illo - draws print-style editorial illustrations with a recurring mascot acting out your idea, from a prompt like "/illo how a newsletter issue ships". For you if every post you publish has the same AI hero image. /plugin marketplace add tmchow/illo-skill then /plugin install illo@illo-skill
📈 Growth & Money
Three receipts from this week, each with the one move you can copy.
Optimize for AI Search With Your Agent, Not Just for It - Ahrefs' guide is written for you and your agent: pages reachable by AI bots, content matched to what people ask assistants, facts easy to extract and kept fresh, AI referrals watched. The move: paste the URL into your agent and have it audit your site.
Free Photoshop, 25,000 Users, Donations Under a Tenth of the Bill - Over $2,000 in Codex tokens, a free Photoshop alternative, 2,459 upvotes on r/vibecoding, and users asking for a donate button. His follow-up: donations don't cover a tenth of the token cost. Free plus Reddit buys adoption, not a business.
$60k on Google Ads, 40,500 Clicks, About 20 Signups - 361k impressions, 40.5k clicks, roughly 20 conversions, and a founder asking r/SaaS what to check first. Watch clicks to signups before you scale spend: at 0.05%, the page or the audience is wrong, not the bid.
💬 Builder Discussions
Three threads, and the first is by someone who built a whole product around the thing he now says is dead.
Plan Mode Is Dead - Ayman Nadeem built Nuanced around planning, and now says plans written for agents are going obsolete while the human's mental model matters more than ever. 499 comments on HN arguing which half he got right.
I Don't Want to Read What You Didn't Write - Colin Breck on AI-generated design docs and PR summaries: rich in detail, unreadable, written by machines for machines. 459 comments on the tension: AI makes you faster at writing what nobody wants to read.
What If Claude Charged 100x Tomorrow? - A game built entirely by Codex, a five-hour rate limit, and a builder who couldn't change a sprite's colour in his own code while he waited. 136 comments on what you own when you can't read it.
That's the week. If you could trade one thing with another founder this month, a newsletter slot, a test session, a guest post, what would it be? Hit reply and tell me. That's how this starts.
